The city's "Over-50s Dance Group", a dance, fitness and social "club", was founded as a community arts project in 1983. Some of the participants eventually "hatched" a performance sub-group called "The Spring Chickens" which enables those who are interested to go out and entertain others.
Members keep fit and healthy. They have a great deal of fun together, though most of the group simply dance for the enjoyment and camaraderie it brings.
Dance for elders is strong in many cultures and it believed that it should be made available for western society as well.
