Trapped in a world of make believe 6-17 March

Kirsty Porter & Morwenna Manley 'Trapped in a world of make believe' is a collaborative exhibition exploring the notions of narrative, illustration and story telling. The exhibition involves imagery that has its toes dangling in the surreal, a sprinkling of fantasy, a dollop of the comical and lashings of make believe. Lively characters spring from unfamiliar landscapes inspiring the viewer to string together visual clues, forging a narrative set in their own imaginations.
Opening 6 March at 5.30pm in the gallery.
Historical Theatre Costume Dolls by Deidre Snedden 16 February - 18 March
The dolls belong to the Speech Communication Association of NZ which has its head office in the Square Edge Building. The exhibition shows the results of the life work and passion of the late SCA member, Deidre Snedden. Deidre Snedden created the doll collection using her traditional needlecraft skills to illustrate the costumes of the theatre through the ages. With her passing in 2006, the dolls and a significant proportion of her estate were left to the Speech Communications Association for the benefit and education of its members.
Costumes from Greek and Roman period through to the early 20th Century are on display and are of great interest to theatre lovers and students of all ages.
“These dolls are a treasure. This is a fantastic opportunity to see the development of costume in theatre through the ages. They are beautifully finished and show great craftsmanship.” Del Costello SCA.
