Other Funding Through Creative New Zealand

In some situations funding may be more appropriate through Creative New Zealand's national funding objectives rather than the Creative Communities New Zealand (CCNZ) scheme.

Creative New Zealand

Creative New Zealand is the National Arts Council of New Zealand Toi Aotearoa. It is the government agency responsible for the support and development of the arts in New Zealand. Creative New Zealand aims to foster an environment that supports the development of New Zealand arts and artists, and provide greater opportunities for people to enjoy the arts - wherever they live and whatever their circumstances. One of the most significant ways they can achieve this is by funding a diverse range of arts projects and endeavours.  This is managed by three funding bodies: the Arts Board, Te Waka Toi (the Māori arts board) and the Pacific Arts Committee.

In addition to providing project funding, Creative New Zealand provides a range of other support including:
  • the Authors' Fund (until 2009)
  • annual and multi-year funding
  • the Creative Communities Scheme (local funding)
  • the Screen Innovation Production Fund
  • the Toi IhoTM Maori Made Mark

More detailed information on Creative New Zealand can be found here http://www.creativenz.govt.nz

For projects to be eligible for national funding, they must be of national significance. They must benefit a number of regions or the whole country or be nationally significant in terms of arts development, process or scale. Projects which are of national significance require a greater level of financial assistance than a local assessment committee can provide. In this case an application to Creative New Zealand's national objectives may be accompanied by a letter of endorsement from the local assessment committee explaining why it is unable to assist.

Applicants for Creative New Zealand national funding are advised to obtain a copy of 'Funding, a guide for applicants: Ngä pütea, he whakamäramatanga mo ngä kaitono'. A copy of this publication can be ordered online http://www.creativenz.govt.nz/Funding/tabid/71/language/en-NZ/Default.aspx
