Kylie Wardlaw

The themes of my art are expression, colour and emotion. I’m inspired by nature and I like to convey a powerful meaning about my subject through a spontaneous, free and painterly approach. I sometimes work instinctively, exploring abstract compositions that include landscape features such as horizons and skies, and sometimes from photographic source imagery in an impressionistic way. I like to convey a sense of being moved by the drama of the environment. I enjoy rural and seascape views for their sense of expansiveness and ever-changing climatic conditions.

I’ve recently had a landscape chosen for the 2021 New Zealand Contemporary Art calendar.
