Gill Allen | Rivers and Ranges

Gill Allen’s paintings and drawings form a collection of semi-abstracted panoramic landscapes.  They embrace the exploration of mark-making as an energetic and spontaneous response to her environment, along with colours evoking mood and atmosphere.   Within these works the viewer can choose between solitude and rest or energy and space.  A variety of mediums were used to create the works exhibited; charcoal and water-based mediums, with a predominance toward soft pastel, supports include wooden panel and 300 gsm paper.  Gill graduated in 1997 with a Bachelor of Fine Art from Dunedin Art School.  She is a member of the Pastel Artists of New Zealand (PANZ) and has been a practicing artist and tutor for the past twenty-five years.
