TONO

TONO – Māori artists invite you to keep the discussion alive

For the duration of this exhibition artists ‘hold this space’. We invite you to participate by viewing our works that relate to the living document that is The Treaty of Waitangi.

These multimedia artworks speak about raw truths and whakapapa or genealogy. They also refer to Treaty claims that are still being processed by the Crown. Claims to the Waitangi Tribunal are allegations that the Crown has breached The Treaty of Waitangi by particular actions, inactions, laws or policies and that Māori have suffered prejudice (harmful effects) as a result.

These works give a personal perspective on Treaty issues affecting us and our whānau, hapū and iwi. Of course, the Treaty affects the lives of everyone in Aotearoa New Zealand. Our tono or invitation to you is that you keep being part of the conversation.
