Michele Theobald

I come from a very creative family and discovered my passion to draw, paint and create from a young age. I am a Palmerston North based artist and over the years I have undertaken formal and informal art training to further develop my artistic ability.

When I’m not running around after my busy boys I’m in my studio at home creating. I like to paint a range of subjects and to explore many styles and mediums as I create my art. I really enjoy painting the New Zealand landscape and often snap a photo to later use for reference for a painting. I also enjoy portraiture and flowers and tend to have a more abstract style with this.

I use colour in my paintings to show emotion and mood along with strokes of the brush to capture movement and textures. I begin a painting with an idea of the colours and composition I want to achieve, but the painting process can be experimental as opposed to planned in some instances.
