Karangawai Marsh: Ngāti Raukawa ki te tonga, Ngāti Maniapoto

Paretāpoto Marsh-Walden: Ngāti Raukawa ki te tonga, Ngāti Maniapoto, Te Aitanga a Mahaki

I hua mai tēnei whakakitenga i tētahi whakaaro i toko ake i tētahi whaea me tana tamāhine e iwa tau te pakeke. Ko ngā rākau taketake, i aweawetia e ‘Whakarongo ki te Karanga’ nā Saffron Te Ratana, i hangā mai i te peka, te perepere, te matiti rākau ka noho hei kāinga mō ngā hanga uku nā Pare, ki kīia rā he Tiakarete. He mea whakaaweawe, he mea whakaahua hoki i ō Pare tino hoa, Ngā Tiakarete.

Kei kō atu i tētahi kohinga whakapakoko noa iho nei. He whakaahuatanga kē o tā te whaea me tana tamāhine āta whakatipu ngahere me ōna rākau, ōna koiora, tae atu ki ōna pūrākau pohewa ake nei.

This exhibition began as a simple idea between a mother and her nine-year-old daughter. Native trees, inspired by Saffron Te Ratanas ‘Whakarongo ki te Karanga’, constructed from sticks, beads, and wooden pegs, became home to small clay beings known as Pare's beloved Tiakarete, inspired by and representing her close group of friends, who call themselves Ngā Tiakarete.

More than a collection of sculptures, this is a snapshot of a mother and daughter growing a forest together, one stick, one creature and one far-fetched story at a time.
