Exhibition Proposals

Are you an emerging or established artist, group, or collective with an exhibition idea? Square Edge welcomes proposals that bring diverse, engaging work and stories to our galleries.

We’re interested in a wide range of media and kaupapa.

 

Applications are reviewed and scheduling decisions are made at the end of the year. Contracts then need to be prepared for each exhibiting artist. This takes a week or two.

  • Fill out the Exhibition Proposal form above. If you are unable to do this please email reception@ca.org

  • You’ll receive an email confirming we have received your application. Scheduling decisions are made in November & December for the following year.

    All applicants will be notified of the outcome. If you haven’t heard from us please email reception@ca.org.nz.

  • Wall sizes are shown here. Our walls are over 5 metres high – this is worth considering when planning works.

  • Square Edge is committed to supporting artists, including helping with applications to the Creative Communities Scheme (PNCC). We recognise cost can be a barrier, so funding support is an important part of our mahi.

    Gallery fees are as follows:

    • Main Gallery - $600

    • Entrance Gallery - $540

    • Pop Up Gallery - $260

    • Display Cases - $120

    These fees contribute towards:

    • Artist support, coordination, promotion, and administration

    • Gallery technicians and installation support

    • Exhibition design, signage, and vinyl text

    • Assistance with artwork handling and curation

    • Opening event resources (space, equipment, kitchenware)

    • Cleaning, deinstallation, and packing

    • Wall repairs and repainting

    These fees help cover, but do not fully meet, the true cost of presenting exhibitions.

  • There are lots of avenues for funding but the most accessible local funding source is the Palmerston North Creative Communities Scheme https://www.pncc.govt.nz/Community/Community-funding/Creative-Communities-Scheme

    The Earle Creativity and Development Trust also allocate arts funding every second year for visual arts projects https://www.earletrust.org.nz/visual-arts

    Creative New Zealand offer arts grants for larger projects https://creativenz.govt.nz/Funds-and-opportunities/Find-opportunities/Arts-Grants
