Paint Our Car

A Unique Painting Competition

Paint our car – a competition

The response to this opportunity has been overwhelming and we want to honour the artists efforts by allowing enough time to exhibit the works submitted for a longer timeframe. To enable us to fit a month long exhibition into our gallery program we have postponed the competition until 2022. More details will be available soon!

Cartown Palmerston North, in association with Square Edge Community Arts, are offering artists the unique opportunity to design an artwork that can be printed onto the new Haval Jolion 2021.

The winner will not only see their work printed larger than life – but will also win $1000 spending cash and have one month’s use of the vehicle to show it off to family and friends!

This prize also comes with a massive artist promotion opportunity. This car will be regularly displayed at Cartown, in the Plaza and the Palmerston North airport, and this car will be driven around the region to events, promoting the winning artist and their work over 2021.

This is an open entry competition (all ages are welcome to enter) $30 entry fee for adults $10 for Children (16 years and under).

This fee will contribute to the ARTIST’S PRIZE and the cost of wrapping the car.

Who is this competition for?

This competition offers an exciting opportunity for an artist or emerging artist of any age or ability to gain long-term public exposure and build their profile and portfolio. All artists entering will have their work exhibited in Square Edge Arts Centre. The winning artist will receive a comprehensive Prize Package.

What format does my work need to be in?

This competition is open to all 2 dimensional (flat) artworks. No special planning or design format is needed – any flat artwork of a scale 1 metre x 80cm or larger can be recreated as a wrap to fit the car. If you have several smaller works that fit together then this could also be an option for you.

As an example: please see the attached image of a Smart car wrapped in graffiti artwork by Miguel Paredes on display at the Chicago Auto Show media preview on February 6, 2014 in Chicago, Illinois (123rf.com). In the background is the original 2D artwork that the design company have re-created as a digital wrap.

Please note that this artwork has been adapted to best showcase the key elements on the car. This is part of the process for our winning artist. The design company will create a mock-up of your design. The artist will have the opportunity to view and discuss this before it goes to print.

There will be a weeklong exhibition of all submitted works at Square Edge Arts Centre between August 31st an September 5th, with the event and prize announcement on Friday September 3rd at 5.30pm.
